The Night of the Robbery

By Geoff Anderson From Issue No. 2

our neighbors woke up to
their back door swung open
sparks of glass on carpet
their television swiped
not long after we all had
ADT crop up on our porches
motion sensors tripped so often
police stopped responding to
alarms the night our cat
went to get something to eat
and set the siren off the house
screaming something awful
dad scrambling downstairs
with the code mom ready
to tell off the cops at the door
waiting for their blue and red
whine to turn the corner onto fifth
the rest of the night her eyes
looking towards traffic
down our one way street swearing
if we just took the time to listen
we could hear them too
