she hires a conspiracy of ravens

By Constance Bacchus From Issue No. 8

i. there are cardboard boxes stacked w/names of cigarettes. beer flats in front by a wood framed door that can be broken & not covered by insurance. this is important. ii. a crow, not an environmentalist refuses to break them down. he don’t pay me enough, she caws. refuses to haul them to the growing burn pile out back past the tow yard. iii. she is busy smoking a cigarette. blowing smoke into customers faces burning them down past the filter in the chipped ashtray on the old laminated counter above where wax paper used to roll. the eagles don’t pay her any attention.
