In Nelson

By Nat Myers From Issue No. 6

it was before a bad rain

the bar man had an arabesque of strange tattoos

creamy is creamy he said

with foam eating his lips

the letters over his eyes

he had tears running down his face

you have been here before

the pitbull sleptkicked under the neon taplight

beating into a hot pink pool

the sawdust breathed under the stools

damn it to hell

do we belong here

re the darkness

re the sorrow and the liquid marrow

dark as run off in the ground

am i a worm swimming in this weeding dirt

the pitbull ripped her heart from the floor

in my ear the dog whistle screaming

with the popping of the door
